Youve got to be.....

....kidding me!! Wheather you agree with the FLDS or not on there religious beliefs and practices, what we should all be able to agree on is that the way this went down was wrong on so many levels. So much so that the courts said "give the children back"

Now, I read this:

AUSTIN -- With the price tag of providing care for more than 400 children seized last month from a polygamist ranch in West Texas expected to reach the tens of millions of dollars, a legislative panel suggested Tuesday that the state explore garnisheeing the religious organization's assets to recoup the costs.

"That compound didn't grow out of fairy dust," Sen. Robert Deuell, R-Greenville, said after a Senate Finance Committee hearing in which he urged state health officials to determine whether members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or even the sect as a whole, should be held responsible for the cost of care. "Why should we be footing the bill when they've got assets?"

Really are they serious? It takes alot to shock me these days, but I must say I am shocked. You can read the rest of the article here.

Not surprising. Or they could raise your taxes to flip the cost! Wait until I share this with Daniel!

That sounds ridiculous. The courts rule that they should not have the children in the first place, but the people have to pay for their mistake?? OK!

Its as crazy as the thought of being wrongly imprisoned for 10 years, then when they let you out because the DNA evidence proved you innocent, they ask YOU to pay them back for feeding and housing you all those years.

Crazy!

I agree that this is crazy, but I'm not surprised. We're foster parents and the biological parents are supposed to pay $x/day while their children are in foster care. Of course, I don't think it's ever really paid, but it is in the court papers.

Amazing...the state barges in and takes the children (which I am thankful have now been returned to their parents) and tells the FLDS to pay up. Yeah..makes sense...good one Texas *rolls eyes*

God Bless,
Dawn

it's sickening! the whole thing is such a disaster - makes me crazy mad that this is "our" government... "by the people, for the people..." it's almost laughable how screwed up the thinking is here.

I am not saying one way or the other but we have a friend in El Dorado that actually helped with the evacuation of the children and please believe me there was much that was not released to the public.
Are you all aware of the amount of small graves that are on the property in a short amount of time and the small number of boys..... there was also an informant living in the compound who witnessed much that has not been released
I realize every case between mother and child is different ... but please be aware of these other things....
However the money issue is crazy! :)

Oh that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! Duet 5:29
