Window Mis-treatments??

I dont think that I have the same talent as The Nester when it comes to this kind of thing. She takes an old piece of fabric, throws it up there, finishes it off with some old fringe and Voila...it looks fabulous!!

I do it and, well....this should tell you something. My husband who, wouldnt notice if I were walking down the street dressed like Pippy Long Stocking, walked into our room and said "ah, honey we'll get you a real rod and some fabric for you to sew, like you did the ones down stairs....because the ones downstairs look great"

What am I missing, besides raw talent and cool fabric laying around the house?

After
After, After,

I found a different piece of fabric and thought I would give it a try, I dont think I like it either. I am going to pick up some tassle-fringe at WalMart and attach it to the inner verticle part of the red curtains and see if that helps.

Nothing to do with curtains, but I LOVE your lamp and bed! Love the scroll iron! very nice! My bedrooms need a nice hand to touch and finish them. They lack in that area....

I think size and placement is the problem.

Go look at the Nester's mis-treatments again, and you'll see she hung all the curtains above the window frames, and the long curtains went all the way to the ground.

For the short valance in her sister's kitchen, she hung it above the window frame, and also made it wider than the width of the window frame.

The difference I can see with yours is the length of your curtains is much shorter than the Nester's and you hung them even with the window frame instead of above, and the middle piece should be hung above the window frame, and should be as long as, or wider than, the width of the window.

Ok, heading for cover now, no throwing things, but you did ask, right? :-)

Looking at your pictures again, I say try hanging the side curtains up higher, and leave out the middle piece. I think you'll come pretty close, using what you have. :-)

Robyn, your right...I did ask ;-)

My problem is I was trying to use what was there, as not to spend any money....but thats just not gonna work.

I have 10 foot ceilings and am gonna need to buy at least 9 foot of fabric for each side to get that lengthy look. Sigh!

Oh-well, I'll keep my eyes open at the dollar rack and see what they throw out there over the next few weeks.

Sorry I'm not good at curtains. I had the same curtain in my room growing up for 15 years. Anyway you should go over to my Princess blog and check out my very first bows I made. www.fortheprincess.blogspot.com

I think you have VERY beautiful windows. I love the molding!! I vote that you dont cover them at all. Just use the sheers on the inside of the window pane..

You might need to do some sewing on the curtains you have. And I wouldnt gather them like that (its for a door anyway but you get the idea.)

Then you can show off your pretty windows! :) HTH..

Oh and Thanks for the link the Nesting place gave me some great idea's for window mistreatments of my own! Im gonna post about them probably tomorrow. :)

You probably won't see this since I am 2 weeks late but I think part of your problem is that you're using a round piece of fabric instead of a rectangle. I noticed that you switched the two "curtains" onto the bedside table :D The rounded edges going up on each side (of the center bit in each photo) is a major part of your dissatisfaction. I don't have the mad skills of the Nester but I think using a square cornered piece of fabric and following Robyn's advice in the 2nd comment will make a major improvement. It doesn't have to be a finished piece. And I don't think it necessarily needs the fringe. Just go with fabric for now and if it looks great but needs a bit more "oomph" then add some trim (with pins at first) to see how that goes.

Blessings!
