Because.....

....the one thing that keeps me up at night is having a brand new paint color just sitting, waiting for me to put it on the walls so I can say, "geesh, I don't think I like it"

I was supposed to be taking it easy today so that my back will heal, but I am feeling a bit better and that darn 5 gallon bucket yelled at me every time I passed by it.

I don't think I like it, it is way to yellow for my taste. I am notorious for picking out a color, loving it on the swatch and committing to 5 gallons (because our rooms are big and its cheaper to buy 5 gallons instead of 3) then hating it when I get it in the wall.

My problem is the trim. It is very dark, original wood. I don't want to paint it because I could not imagine having to clean white and I love how the dark hides all the finger prints and nicks that come with many mud/peanut butter covered boys. Everything looks different up against dark wood as opposed to white trim. The color is Sugar Cookie, but on the wall it looks much yellower (thats Texan for more yellow ;-). I intended to also use this color in the library, maybe it'll grow on me, well, honestly it will have to grow on me.

If you had dark trim what colors would you choose?

I would probably use a light cream/beige colour, something neutral. We have just painted one of our bedrooms and the colour was "clotted cream" - it also turned out yellower looking than I'd planned, but we have lighter trim so it lightens it up a bit. But I'd say probably a light cream/off white would go nice with the dark trim. It doesn't look too bad though what you've got.www.homebeautiful.com has a paint picker that you could try.

I have the same problem with picking out paint and then hating it. We just covered up several of my paint-disaster samples on the wall with Kilz, and we're sticking with builder's beige or white, from now on. Safer that way. ;-)

I do like your yellow with the dark trim, though, it really warms up the room. And, I agree, leave that beautiful dark trim as it is! :-)

I wonder if you will grow to like it after a few days? I bet the Nester would have great ideas. :-)

I think the color looks pretty, but our kitchen and dining room is yellow. Do you have any leftover white? Or, if affordable, you could buy one gallon of white and mix it in to lighten the color.

I think it looks pretty but I also have a room in my house pretty much that color so I am probable not much help. I agree with whoever said a light beige.

Hello there,
I have been reading your blog for awhile, it is such and encouragement, I thought I would let you know! The paint looks really pretty against the wood trim, so I hope you grow to like it! My husband and I were just married in June and are looking for a house, and pretty soon we are hoping that I can quit work and stay home, so this site is really fun for me!

Audrey,
I got my dresses and things today. You did such a good job on the two matching dresses and matching bows too. They are so adorable. Can't wait to get the girls in them together. I will let you know how the dress kit goes. Will send pictures when I can. THanks again so very much!

I THINK THE YELLOW LOOKS GREAT AND I WOULD LEAVE IT. BUT YELLOW IS MY FAVORITE COLOR. I THINK IT ALL DEPENDS ON PERSONAL TASTE. I ALWAYS TRY TO LIVE WITH IT FOR A WHILE TO SEE IF IT GROWS ON ME. I ALWAYS GO A LITTLE OUT THERE WITH MY DECORATING-SHOOT YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE IT,GLAZE IT,PAINT WASH IT,FAUX FINISH,PAPER IT ETC.. I think Kimberly's idea of mixing some white or off-white in with the yellow to lighten it up, would work great.

Adding some white or off-white to the yellow you already have, might make it more of a sugar cookie color like you want.

You could always experiment with a small amount in a bucket and see if you like it better.

Hi there,

I meant to post this yesterday. I'd probably go with a nice, light green in a sage or moss or even light cucumber shade. Something fresh - like in my living room, as if that is any help to you at all :)

Your color is beautiful. My almost yellow color is discontinued but still very popular w/ home interior designers is this area: Benjamin Moore's Oriental Silk. Everything goes with this type of color and keeps rooms from becoming depressing, which is always a fear with dark trim. Many other houses I've visited this spring surprisingly have this color also, although I'm sure theirs is not the exact brand/color. One neighbor decorated in Spanish/Mediterranean and another decorated with an Italian theme, but their colors looked the same. I agree with the others---adding white or cream to lighten the yellow would probably make you smile!

Personally I love greens and think they look great with wood; green is so calming. I went with Sherwin Williams' Liveable Green and truly love it. It's a light color, just what I needed for small rooms. With such high ceilings and big rooms, you wouldn't have to stick to a light color. That is, if you wanted to change your paint color. I like your paint color, though, for the living areas. Will you paint every room the same? If not, a green would complement the yellow and the wood and would be calming for the bedrooms or even the kitchen.

Good luck!
