Mind Numbing Work

I am finding that I cant be in all the places I need to be in order to protect my children in their own home. Last night I was not feeling well so I was on the couch with my feet up, but trying to keep an ear open to everything that was being said by Margaret (my mother) to the kids.

Apparently I was not doing a good enough job, because my just turned 7 year old came up to me and started asking me about the devil. Of course I knew exactly what had happened. I asked him a few starting questions like well what did she tell you. He proceeded to tell me what she told him, which some of it was disturbingly not true. Apparently they were talking about his school and how much he liked it and when she thought that the cost was clear...she asked "so do you know who the devil is?"

I asked him if she mentioned Jesus, he said no, just the devil. Am I the only one who finds this a bit odd? She did this before with Devon and scared the life out of him telling him that the devil can enter into people and possess them. I think she has an unhealthy obsession with Mr Lucifer and that she is trying to plant that in the kids when ever she sees I'm not listening.

I am not opposed to talking about the devil, but the context was weird and out of place. Her relegious beliefs do not line up with Rob and I's beliefs. Yet I cant seem to get her to stop talking to them about this stuff. Perhaps I just need to sit down with her this evening and let her know that if this doesnt stop she will have to leave before the two weeks is up.

Sigh

On another note is it just me or is Halloween completely flooding the airwaves and shopping arenas this year. For those of you who celebrate...I have no qwams (eat some candy for me) but for those of us who do not...you cant get away from it this year. Even my kids are so excited that today is Halloween...even though they know nothing comes of it for them....isnt that odd. They were walking around yesterday saying trick or treat to each other.

The Father has shown me over the past few days that we must buckle down and do more to protect our childrens minds and hearts and eyes and souls. TV needs to be a thing of the past, but in a house full of 6 fellas thats no mole hill.

Oh, Amish country.....please hold a spot for me!

Eve is going to start school without me so I guess I had better get moving LOL

Yes the topic of discussion with your mother is a bit disturbing and a topic that should be left to you and hubby for sure! Audrey my heart breaks for you and this situation you are in. I am praying for you dear sister! Take care of yourself and rest up "if and when you can".

As for Amish country, well im right there with you. I was telling Troy the other day I would go in a second flat if we could or if "he" could take it LOL

Hope your feeling better!

I hope your situation works out and GOd gives you the wisdom and courage if needed to do what is right! I do not understand her way of thinking and wanting to scare your boys! But I am praying for you.

tv? Do you have a tv or is it unavailable?

I have noticed that toy magazines are already coming in the mail for Christmas. Like I said, we don't do presents but the boys are really looking through asking for their birthday! Glad to find someone else agrees/believes as we do.

Yes, we have a TV. I have said though that when it dies we are not replacing it. Its about 10 years old...and still going strong ;-(

I purchased Tivo with Kidzone...it was supposed to revolutionize our TV watching, but I couldnt get it to work correctly. We really enjoy the Discovery and Animal planet shows. And Rob loves to watch the Mavericks during basketball season.

It just amazes me how even G and PG rated shows now are NOT family friendly.

I recommend speaking to your husband about what to do about this siuation with your mother. Also, could you explain more about your bins in your homeschool room? They look incredibly organized.

How about movies? Have you seen and would you recommend them for children?
1. Madagascar
2. Over The Hedge
3. Cars
4. Curious George

Thanks

I have seen Over the Hedge. I found it to be on the "better" side of movies for children. There werent any curse words and there was a message or lesson to be learned. The problem that I could see with it is there is quite a bit of stealing going on ;-S.

Its animals taking food and things from the new neighborhood that had been built.

I guess this is true to life in a sense as animals will take food if it is laying around.

As for the others I havent seen them yet. We will probably see Cars within the next week, so I will let you know on that one.

Oh that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! Duet 5:29
